Definition and Interpretation

“ATM Networks” means any ATM network to which the Card may get access for such Card Transactions as determined by the Bank, including JETCO and PLUS networks and such other networks in any part of the world as it may from time to time be determined by the Bank;


“Authentication Factors” means any security credential which you used for initiating, verifying and/or authorizing any Card Transactions (which includes but not limited to PIN, authentication tokens, passwords, biometrics, soft tokens and/or device binding);


“the Bank” means Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) Limited and includes its successors and assigns;


“Biometric Authentication” means technology that uses biological characteristics to verify a person’s identity (for example fingerprints and facial recognition);


“Card” means any valid credit card from time to time issued by the Bank to you, including Principal Card and Supplementary Card and any renewed or replacement Card;


“Card Account” means the credit card account opened by the Bank in the name of you, and where applicable, it includes all sub-accounts opened under it;


“Card Account Number” means the valid account number from time to time assigned by the Bank to you which enables you to make Card Transactions;


“Card Transaction(s)” means any purchase of goods and/or services, balance transfers or any cash advance effected by the use of the Card or Card Account Number and includes Internet Transactions and/or contactless transactions through contactless card sensor;


“Internet Transactions” means any purchase of goods and/or services effected by the use of the Card via the Internet, telephone, fax or mail order or other electronic means as the Bank may from time to time determine;


“PIN” means in relation to a Card, the personal identification number or password for the time being assigned and issued by the Bank to you for the access to services provided by the Bank (includes any such number as may be changed by you).


Complete the Confirmation and Activation Procedures and Sign on Your Card upon Receipt

Upon your receipt of the Card from the Bank, you should check carefully your name, Card Account Number and expiry date embossed on the Card. If the information is correct, you should complete the confirmation and activation procedures as prescribed and sign on the signature panel on the reverse side of the Card using a ball pen immediately.


 

Keep Your Card Safe and Authentication Factors Secret

To facilitate your access to our ATM Networks, a PIN for ATM services will be issued to you after the prescribed Card receipt confirmation and activation procedures have been completed.


You should pay attention to the followings and take reasonable steps to keep your Card safe and Authentication Factors secret to prevent theft, fraudulent or unauthorized use of them:


  1. keep any record of the PIN separate from your Card;
  2. destroy the original printed copy of the PIN immediately;
  3. never write down or record the PIN without disguising it;
  4. never write down the PIN on the Card or together with the Card Account Number or on anything usually kept with or near it;
  5. never use any easily accessible personal information (e.g. telephone numbers or identity card numbers) as the PIN;
  6. never disclose the Card information and/or the Authentication Factors and/or the Card Account Number to any third party;
  7. change your PIN regularly through ATM Networks;
  8. never leave the Card and/or the Card Account Number in unattended places or public areas; and
  9. pay attention to alerts issued by the Hong Kong Police Force and Anti-Scam Alerts of Scameter, if any suspectable deception happened, please call Anti-Scam Helpline 18222 for assistance.


 

Prevent Fraudulent or Unauthorized Transactions When using Your Card in Retail Purchase

  1. ensure the contact details registered with the Bank for the purpose of receiving important notifications from the Bank (for example, SMS notifications for online payments) are up-to-date to allow the relevant notifications to be delivered to you on a timely basis;
  2. check to ensure that the Card number and transaction amount are correct before you sign the sales slip;
  3. write clearly the currency sign when you are required to write down the transaction amount on the sales slip;
  4. make sure the Card returned to you after each transaction belongs to you;
  5. keep the customer copy of the sales slip for your record;
  6. do not use unknown public WIFI to process online Card Transactions or mobile payment app with Card Account binding;
  7. verify the Card Transaction details carefully, including merchant name, transaction type, transaction amount and currency, before inputting one-time password for any transaction; and
  8. notify the Bank as soon as practicable after identify unusual or suspicious transactions on the Card.

 

Important notices if adopting Biometric Authentication

  1. for security reasons do not use jailbroken or rooted mobile devices;
  2. to protect your rights and interests, should use official mobile payment app;
  3. before giving your mobile device which is performed Card binding or activated mobile payment app to others or dispose it, please delete the Card information from your mobile device according to the instructions and guidelines issued by relevant mobile payment service provider;
  4. do not use “Biometric Authentication” if you have reasonable belief that other people may share identical or very similar biometric credentials of you (for example identical twin brothers/sisters share very similar facial features); and
  5. if your facial features are or will be undergoing rapid change, do not use “facial recognition” for authentication purpose.


 

Report to the Bank Immediately When Your Card or Authentication Factors is Lost or Stolen

Upon occurrence or suspicion of any of the following events, you shall report as soon as reasonably practicable to the Bank’s Report Lost / Stolen Card Hotline (852) 2836 8828 or to the Bank’s outlets in person, or report through the Bank’s internet banking:


  1. loss and/or theft of your Card or Authentication Factors;
  2. unauthorized use of the Card and/or Authentication Factors;
  3. disclosure of Authentication Factors to any unauthorized person; and/or
  4. suspicion of any counterfeit Card bearing the same number as your Card or purported to be issued under your Card Account.
